2017
Dir. Mars Callahan 2002 Hustling, hustling, hustling. Everyday I'm hustling! This film reminds me in a good way of the film The Hustler (1961) starring Paul Newman. The secret to being cool really is confidence and believing that you deserve to be the best, because you work harder than everyone else! I rate the film memorable to the few who have watched it and deem it a cult classic! Dir. Alejandro G. Iñárritu 2015 I'll have to admit the two main reasons why I saw the film in the first place. The first being that Dir. Iñárritu made me a huge fan with his masterpiece "Birdman." The second being that DiCaprio finally landed his oscar with this film. I cannot stress the exquisite beauty Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki captured with this film. He is is also the D.P. for Birdman, Gravity, and Children of Men. I love the direction of the film and none of the the sort of flashbacks alluding to Hugh's dismay disconnected me from the story. Leonardo DiCaprio did an excellent job capturing the character so well even though the novel's highly detailed descriptions delve to a human psychology unimaginable to those who never hiked once in the wilderness. The struggle and the conflict build up between Fitzgerald and Hugh certainly intensified to a point where I believed Tom Hardy and Leonardo Dicaprio were really fighting. The musical score, and unbelievable visuals is sure to keep any cinephiles suspended in disbelief. Do I think the film has a well deserved following? Absolutely! This film has a clear defined purpose and it resonates with the cast and crew. Dir. Tim Burton 2012 Hello to everyone! I sincerely hope you all are doing fine with the start of a new year. I've decided that I would like to get back with writing and talking about movies. This time is different, and I really mean that! With each post being at the front, my viewers are encouraged to add to the discussion with the comments section below. I want to add a video to accompany each movie. I would like to start off by saying I love Tim Burton films and his unique style of choice for color. He pays homage to the great Frankenstein and early filmmaking by choosing the fitting stock film look. I have watched the original live action Frankenweenie and it was also set in black and white. The theme of bringing the dead back to life asks the question of whether it is wrong or right, or if we even have the right if we can. I've learned through the years that we seem to be logical, but in fact we are, for the most part, emotional creatures. That statement alone is a blessing and a gift, which show our humanity. I would not trade this feeling for the world. I don't think I believe in a number system for movies, but I do believe in the amount of joy it brings to the world. I love music and film! My aspirations include being a part of those mediums daily. I think that being a contributing part of the universe is what most of us dream of. |
