I live in Vegas, but I really live in the mean streets of Vegas. North Las Vegas will forever be cursed as being an area with thugs, gangs, and junkies. I will not deny that fact, but it does not make me or everyone that lives here a bad person. Recently though, a package I was expecting was stolen from thugs in "North Town," so yes there are bad people...

Just figured out that my room has bad reception at times, but not to mention my phone just does not work. This weekend my boss tried to call me, and I just did not notice it. Her call showed up in call notes, but not call history which really made me mad. Well, I got a hold of her and she congratulated me on getting the job and that I start training soon like this week. I explained that I will get a new phone as soon as I make money, but in the meantime I gave her my home phone just in case. Spanish is going well, and I feel that all my professors are so helpful this semester. The power point to the right of this page was sent from one of my Film professors, which is great so I do not have to write everything during lecture. I actually text my Spanish teacher back, and forth for help which really saved me a lot of time in finishing my homework. I cannot believe I have the same professor I took semesters ago, the class I picked was pure random but maybe it could be fate. I know it has been awhile because I made an old video where I mention in Spanish something about my Spanish teacher at the end of the video. Life really does pass so quickly, it is a good thing I am enjoying the ride. A substitute Film Professor gave advice before the class ended, and it made a lot of sense to me. He said, "If you want to write books, read books. If you want to make movies, watch movies." I decided in order for me to make a good script, I would read scripts.
1) Men In Black This script was really good for ideas using Parenthetical Lines. I liked how they had Dialogue Lines in Spanish, and alien languages. 2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Just had to look at this script, because it is one of my favorite movies. I actually would like to keep my screenwriting within this style. 3) The Lunch Date This was a short screenplay I read in class. Can't find the script online, but the video was available. 4) Fight Club Another favorite movie of mine, and it has great examples of Intercut, Voice-Overs, and Off-Screens. 5) Rocky Used this script to get an idea of what a Montage looks like pretty much. "What is the purpose of this scene?" Is a question I am starting to ask myself before I regret adding scenes that will bore the audience to sleep. Storytelling has been going on since the beginning of time, but Aristotle came up with reasons for why a story is good or bad.
Aristotle's Poetics Three Unities: 1) Unity of Action- The main action pertaining to story. 2) Unity of Time- The ticking clock makes the movie urgent, and challenging for the protagonist. 3) Unity of Space- The setting of the movie needs to be consistent, or will end up being hard to follow. Not all movies follow these rules, and they do not have to. Like any art, this is just one example of how some people like to write. With that said, if you find yourself watching a movie that is boring, it might be because they do not meet one or more of these rules. The Arkoff Formula 1) Action (exciting, entertaining drama) 2) Revolution (novel or controversial themes and ideas) 3) Killing (a modicum of violence) 4) Oratory (notable dialogue and speeches) 5) Fantasy (acted-out fantasies common to the audience) 6) Fornication (sex appeal, for young adults) |
